More Than a Meal: Otakoï is Honoured to be Part of a New Museums Victoria Exhibition!

We've always believed that a restaurant is more than a place to eat - it's a community hub, a cultural embassy, and a keeper of stories. Today, we are bursting with pride and gratitude to announce that the story of Otakoï Ukrainian Restaurant is being shared in a very special way.

We are incredibly honoured to be featured in the Immigration Museum's new exhibition, "Order Up: A City Fed by Many Cultures."

This beautiful exhibition is a collaboration between Melbourne-based artists Daniel Saade and Redmond Stevenson. Saade and Stevenson’s creative practice is grounded in the belief that Melbourne’s hospitality industry plays a vital role in immigrant integration - a perspective shaped by their own experiences and Saade’s family’s journey and opportunities. The exhibition explores how spaces like ours are not just businesses, but vital places where culture is shared, preserved, and celebrated.

To be included among so many incredible stories is a testament to the journey we've been on since opening our doors. It's a recognition of our mission to share the authentic soul of Ukraine, from our traditional recipes to our handcrafted ceramics and the incredible team who make it all possible.

Otakoï is a living, breathing part of the story this exhibition tells.

We are so proud to represent Ukrainian culture in this important exhibition and invite you all to visit. It’s a chance to explore the rich history of the diverse communities who have made Melbourne's food scene one of the best in the world.

After you've explored the stories at the museum, we invite you to come and taste one firsthand at our tables.
