An Unforgettable Opening at Otakoi Ukrainian Restaurant: Thank You, Melbourne!

What an incredible, unforgettable opening weekend! To every single person who walked through our doors, shared a meal, and celebrated with us — дякуємо! Your amazing energy, your kindness, and your clear love for Ukrainian food have filled our hearts and our new restaurant with so much joy.


We've been reading all of your wonderful reviews and are so touched by your words. We set out to build a home for Ukrainian culture on Chapel Street, and you all made that dream feel real this weekend.



We were absolutely blown away by the turnout and the positive spirit. We thought it would be fun to share what our first weekend looked like in numbers:

  • 312 wonderful guests served and welcomed into the Otakoi family.

  • Over 2,500 amazing followers joining our journey across Instagram and Facebook!


And it seems you already have some clear favourites! Our kitchen was busy sending out the classics. Here were your top dishes from our opening weekend:

  • Borshch: 76 bowls of soulful, comforting soup served.

  • Chicken Kyiv: 61 perfectly crispy and buttery dishes enjoyed.

  • Varenyky: Nearly 100 plates of our handmade Varenyky!

  • Medivnyk (Honey Cake): Over 70 slices of our delicious layered cake.

The love has continued, and we are absolutely humbled to announce that our weekends in August are already almost fully booked!

We are open every day except Monday, and reservations are filling up faster than we could have ever imagined. To avoid disappointment, we highly recommend booking your table in advance.


A helpful tip: After booking, please check your spam/junk folder for your confirmation email, as they sometimes like to hide in there!
