Pickled Tomatoes, Stories, and Brunch: A Ukrainian Masterclass at Otakoï

In Ukrainian homes, pickled tomatoes are never just a side dish.
They sit right in the middle of the table — next to warm food, long chats, laughter, and stories that somehow always last longer than planned. Every family has their own recipe. Every jar has its own little history.
At Otakoï, we’ve always believed that food is about more than what’s on the plate. It’s about moments, connection, and feeling like you belong at the table.
That’s why we’re starting something new.
Brunches with Meaning
This year, we’re launching a series of adult-focused brunch events — relaxed, hands-on experiences built around food, stories, and shared moments. Think less “workshop” and more Sunday brunch with purpose.
No rushing. No awkward icebreakers. Just good food, good people, and a bit of tradition woven in.
Our Pickled Tomato Masterclass is the first of these events.

Why Pickled Tomatoes?
Because in Ukrainian culture, this recipe is simple, practical - and deeply emotional.
Pickling tomatoes was never about following exact measurements. It was about tasting, adjusting, learning from elders, and passing something down. It’s one of those recipes that brings people together without trying too hard.
On Saturday, 1 March, we’ll be sharing an authentic Ukrainian pickled tomato recipe, the way it’s been made at family tables for generations.
You’ll prepare your own jar from start to finish, learn why each ingredient matters, and hear the stories behind the process. Along the way, there’ll be tastings, brunch snacks, and plenty of time to talk, laugh, and connect.
What This Event Is — and Isn’t
This isn’t a high-pressure cooking class. It’s not about perfection.
It is about:
slowing down
learning something meaningful
sharing food and stories
and leaving with something you made yourself
You’ll walk away with a jar of pickled tomatoes — and probably a few new conversations you didn’t expect.
